PAUL HUNTER DAY 2014

The 4th Annual Paul Hunter Day took place on the middle Sunday of this year’s World Championships within the home of grass roots snooker, Cue Zone within the Winter Gardens.

Set within the iconic snooker backdrop of the BBC studio, over 250 people, including 50 visitors, took part in the day which included the Paul Hunter Foundation Sixty Second Challenge shoot out with Rodion Jochins emerging as the winner after a shoot out with Billy Stanton and Oliver Turner after all were tie on 8 balls potted within the allotted one minute.

Rodion Jochins then played a 6 red frame of snooker against six times World and UK Champion, Steve Davis, who is also a patron of the Foundation.

Presentations were then made to the four clubs who have recently taken part in the Paul Hunter Foundation snooker league with the golden cue emerging as inners after a close fought battle with the Star Academy, The Winchester Club and Ravens together with guests from North Notts Junior Snooker Academy and Lancashire Country Council’s Young Peoples Services, Skelmersdale.

Steve Davis then entertained the audience with his famous trick shot routine and then together with Jason Ferguson, Chairman of the WPBSA, who opened the event, presented all the people taking part with commemorative certificates and PHF medals.

The guests then moved to the Crucible where they settled down to watch the afternoon’s session which prior to its commencement, a minutes applause was orchestrated by Rob Walker, which lasted well over a minute, with the whole of the Crucible on their feet which was acknowledged by Paul’s mum and dad who were in the audience.

Chris Lovell, on behalf of the Foundation, said, “It was a very special occasion for everyone involved, to bring people together from different areas of the country and to see them taking part with smiles on their faces through Paul’s sport is testament to our game of snooker.  We would like to thank everyone involved, not just here but around the country who offered their support during the last 12 months; it is very much appreciated by the team.
